The Business Roundtable Health Care Policy Principles that oppose patient rights laws state:
  • We oppose federal or state requirements which would mandate that employers provide any particular levels or types of health care benefits.

  • We oppose state laws that mandate coverage of particular health care services or types of providers.

  • We support managed care as a means to improve health care delivery and financing. We favor the expansion of managed care through the private market and the elimination of barriers (both state and federal laws) to the operation of managed care plans.

  • We strongly encourage the further application of managed care principles under publicly-financed health care programs.

  • We support tort reform to address medical liability problems.

  • Reforms needed include limits on general and punitive damages, elimination of double recoveries, elimination of joint and several liability, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. The use by physicians and accepted medical practice guidelines should constitute an acceptable defense against negligence actions.

BOTTOM LINE: The same BRT consortium of CEOs who obstructed the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) law enforcement actions through BRT's "Corporate Governance Principles" are engaging and succeeding in a similar scheme through BRT's "Health Care Policy Principles" to render health care benefits illusory for 300,000,000 American patients by obstructing state and federal managed health care law enforcement actions.
