MAKE IT ONE FOR THE PATIENT |
| The way that HMOs,
medical groups and physican management companies do business insure that
HMOs, doctors and patients play hardball. They fight over what
"medically necessary" health care means in terms of diagnostic
and treatment decisions.
These fights aren't about health care at all. They're about money. HMOs and their doctors use upside-down logic, tortured logic, twisted logic, bad logic and no logic trying to make patients believe that diagnosis and treatment aren't "medically necessary." Jackie and I played hardball for over a year to pressure our HMO's bureaucrats to approve an out-of-plan physical therapy referral by one of the HMO's own specialists. When you leave this page you can go to "About the Book" and read what happened to us in Chapter One of my book, How to Play HMO HARDBALL. Jackie's song, "MAKE IT ONE FOR THE PATIENT", is based on that struggle to obtain medically necessary health care. This song is very funny, but has a very serious message. What happened to us will happen to all HMO patients one day. Learn How to Play HMO HARDBALL to prepare yourselves when that day comes. We hope that you recall this song every time you interact with you HMO and its doctors. HMOs play hardball. Learn How to Play HMO HARDBALL successfully. Protect yourself and you loved ones. Don't wait! Listen to Jackie's rendition of "Make It One for the Patient" and sing along, it's fun... |
