HARD HEARTED HEALTH PLANS |
| HMOs and their doctors
blame patients for bad healthcare by telling them that they failed to
take "responsibility." HMO Handbooks warn patients that
they have a responsibility to work in partnership with their doctors,
to take an active part in every medical decision and to become skilled
at obtaing care. Otherwise, patients get what they deserve.
My book, How to Play HMO HARDBALL, describes how HMOs use "patient bashing" to insult patients who are successful at playing HMO HARDBALL. The more insulting the label, the better patients are protecting their health. Patient bashing means that you've struck a nerve. HMOs whine that patients who don't understand that their HMOs are trying to help them are confused, dazed, misinformed and misguided. They say that patient complaints are nonsense and preposterous. Such patients are malcontents and hysterical. "HARD HEARTED HEALTH PLANS" is a song that describes how HMOs use "responsibility" hype and "patient bashing" to harm proactive patients who rock the HMO boat. When Jackie and I exposed a doctor's outright lies used to deny treatment, our HMOs Medical Director stated that we had caused "failed relationships" and advised us to enroll in another Health Plan. We had learned How to play HMO HARDBALL and got what we needed. Don't bash us! We hope that you recall this song every time you interact with your HMO and its doctors. HMOs play hardball. Learn How to Play HMO HARDBALL successfully. Protect yourself and your loved ones. Don't wait! Listen to Jackie's rendition of "Hard Hearted Health Plans" and sing along, it's fun... |
